On 15 January, 1885, the very first photograph of a single snowflake was taken when this snowy snapshot (a gelatin silver print to be more precise) was captured by Wilson Alwyn Bentley (1865–1931), a self-educated farmer from Vermont, USA, using a microscope fitted to a camera!
